LEG-2026-08-02

Terms of Service

Last updated 2 August 2026 · Applies to the Waylight web app, the Waylight mobile app, and the Waylight API.

Waylight is currently operated directly by its founder as a pre-incorporation project — no company has yet been formally registered. References to "Waylight," "we," or "us" below mean the individual currently operating the service, contactable at contact@waylightapp.site. This will be updated once a legal entity is formed.

1. The service

Waylight is a route-planning app that scores walking and cycling routes on real, measured comfort factors (lighting, surface, shade, traffic) rather than distance alone. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

2. Accounts

You need an account to save places, sync preferences across devices, and use presence-sharing. You're responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. You must provide a real email address you control — magic-link sign-in depends on it. You can delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy §7).

3. Acceptable use

Don't use Waylight to: scrape or bulk-extract our map/comfort data beyond ordinary personal use; attempt to bypass rate limits or authentication; impersonate another person; harass or track another user via presence-sharing; or submit content to the AI assistant that's unlawful, abusive, or designed to extract data about other users. We may suspend accounts that violate this section.

4. AI-assisted features

The free-text assistant is optional — every route-planning feature is also available through structured filters that never touch an AI model. When you do use free text, it's sent (with your current location) to Infomaniak AI Services (Euria, Mistral-family models) solely to extract a structured route intent; see the Privacy Policy §3 for details. AI output is used only to fill in filters — the routes, distances, and comfort scores you see are always computed by Waylight's own deterministic engine from real map data, never invented by the model.

5. Data accuracy and route safety

Waylight's comfort scores are built from OpenStreetMap data, municipal open data where available, and derived signals (lighting tags, surface tags, live weather, sun position). This data can be incomplete, outdated, or wrong for a given street — we surface "unknown" rather than guessing when we lack real data, but we cannot guarantee every score is current or that every street is accurately mapped. Use your own judgment about personal safety, traffic, and route conditions; Waylight is a planning aid, not a safety guarantee.

6. Security vulnerability disclosure

If you find a security issue, email security@waylight.app. We acknowledge reports within 48 hours and aim to triage within 5 business days. Please report privately rather than filing a public issue, and give us a reasonable window to fix a vulnerability before disclosing it publicly. We won't pursue legal action against good-faith security research conducted under this policy.

7. Intellectual property and map data

Waylight's app, design, and code are owned by its operator except where otherwise licensed. Map and street data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL); Waylight's comfort-graph packs are a derivative database under ODbL §4.4 — see our LICENSE file for the full notice and share-alike terms. Some municipal datasets carry their own attribution requirements, credited in-app where used.

8. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Waylight and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate §3, or discontinue the service entirely with reasonable notice where practical.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Waylight is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including reliance on route or comfort-score data. Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not permit it (e.g. for fraud or gross negligence).

10. Changes to these terms

We'll update the date and version badge at the top of this page whenever these terms change, and notify signed-in users in-app of material changes. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

As Waylight has not yet formed a legal entity, no specific governing-law/jurisdiction clause is asserted here beyond your own local consumer-protection rights, which remain unaffected. This section will be completed once a legal entity is formed.
